309 South Church Street - William
D. Folk House (circa 1876)
Built in 1876 and painted red during Victorian
times, this was the home of William Folk, Mayor of Smithfield,
from 1884-1893. Since that time it has been the home of two
more of Smithfield's mayors - Howard W. Gwaltney (1950-1961) and
Smithfield's first woman mayor, Florine H. Moore, elected in 1986.
